The mage pets currently are inferior in nearly every regard to the scout pets. They historically were optimal when fighting linked encounters but testing with up to 4 linked mobs still shows the scout (and even fighter pet) much higher dps. I've tested in raids and on dummies both this level and the prior level. It appears that the abilities are just notably lower damage and seem to have a slower ramp up time.

Outside of the overall low damage, there are few linked encounters currently in game that would make it worthwhile to change to the mage pet (especially with rebuff time).

I suggest either substantially increasing the mage pet's damage or changing their abilities to blue aoe damage to at least create scenarios where it is worthwhile to use the mage pet.

i would love it if mage pet had aoes it is one of the lackluster things necro suffer from is low amount of aoes and making a mage pet have blues as spells would be awesome and more fitting for the set as scout is single target mage could be aoe

if going the blue aoe route, it might be helpful to specify that the pets aoe dmg propagates from its target, rather than from the pet itself since it stays quite ranged. I'd much rather see the green be increased however

just make the aoe of the pet have a big range or have the tank round up the adds and put it on the biggest cluster 0 reason to have it be green as its basically just single target as linked encounters are almost never a thing anymore

You're really asking for trouble now. It's been quite a few expacs now that scout pets are superior. All this will do is break something else for an entire expansion and maybe thats what youre going for here. Leave it alone as to not break even more spirits in BoZ.
