Yearly Development Roadmap
Another year begins, and with it comes a new roadmap to share with you all. Before we go too far however, let’s take a few moments to recap what happened at the tail end of last year. In November, the Heroes’ Festival  made its return to celebrate EverQuest II’s 20th anniversary! We weren’t done with November though, as we also celebrated the launch of our 21st expansion, Scars of Destruction. December saw the return of Frostfell, and the New Year’s event to finish out our year.

We had another banner year with Extra Life thanks to the amazing job you all did with fundraising and donating to help children in need! You all went above and beyond this year and, as such, raised a whopping $139,457.78. This year’s Darkpaw Games page is already up and ready for sign-ups.

I would be remiss for not mentioning the Darkpaw Swag Store updates! Check it out for hats, shirts, posters, and much more! Keep an eye on it throughout the year for more swagtastic merch to be added!

And now, without further ado, this year’s Roadmap.

What a very…..empty….roadmap. Not many stops along the way we haven’t visited before. No actual improvements or development?
What were you expecting? This is pretty close to the same as last years if you take out the year of darkpaw stuff. Most of the developer time is spent on making the next expansion and we won't know any additional information for that until it gets close.

I chose not to say it before - but this is mostly just a calendar of events based on the same events having occurred last year. Very little indeed is "here is what we have in mind making EQ2 by the end of the year." Some games talk, though often in broad terms, about a whole LOT more than "next year around Frostfell time we will ...have Frostfell. "

Warsteiner is spot-on.

Yeah, this is basically a calendar of events. When they are releasing betas, raids, expansion, etc. Once again What were you expecting? This is the same layout as last year. This tells exactly what they have in mind for the year. If you are expecting game secrets and other stuff, I think you'd have to work there to learn that stuff.

I never said the roadmap was a surprise - but I think it was a fair comment to suggest that they could do more.

Take LOTRO as an example. And I am not saying that is a better game - I am here, after all. They say that they are working on things like improvements to the interface, improvements to lag, improvements to guild interfaces and functionality, new servers, better log-in screen, crafting improvements, better security when logging in. Not all of these things actually happen but they go a lot further than saying around Christmas we will have the usual Christmas event. They do say that - it is on a separate calendar. If they ran EQ2 they might say that they might have a new TLE this year. Or that they wouldn't. That Varsoon might be extended again. Or it might not.

Their players complain about lack of communications sometimes. All players in all games want more. But they would go wild if a roadmap there said so very little as the one here does.

No new TLE and only Origins updates? What a poor decision. The lights could just be turned on again and it would have more population.

That's what I'm asking for, yes I agree, they do need to put things like working on stuff but sadly they probably won't. They put the directx update info in and said they could use this to potentially make the game better down the line. Seeing something like this added would be nice.

I would hazard a guess that Varsoon will keep going till it shows enough lack of interest to kill it and start anew. With how it's been going, I can see them not commenting on details on it. It's still busy but you never know what could finish it off.

I feel a lot of times that the lack of communication here hurts the game. That said, we still need to post what we expected in case they change their mind and finally start listening to us. Just I expected more isn't enough, what was expected, otherwise they'll continue to ignore us.

Current TLE is still going semi strong and is being updated with releases that they never have done on a TLE before. Why would they launch a new TLE to tank the current one?

Tears of Veeshan launches in May, that means four months later would be September. Assuming they're keeping the spacing of expansions. TOV also totally doesn't have four months worth of content. It didn't even have that much on live.

My thought is they will see how the population holds up and decide to launch another expansion or new TLE based on that. This is uncharted territory for them. If they announce a new TLE, it will possibly kill Varsoon.

Agree it's pretty sparse and pretty much just listing the same events we get every year. Hopefully they will add some new content to those at least. If you are not interested in the TLE server there really isn't much new here. There is nothing here that personally makes me excited about what is coming in 2025.

It's pretty much same old same old. Which is fine I guess. I was REALLY hoping and asked for them to extend the Year Of DarkPaw stuff. I wasn't able to finish it all and that would be something I would be excited about doing. So much effort and resources for a one and done.

I will still be here playing what content there is. Maybe that is the problem. They know people will stick around even if they don't release any new or interesting things during the year. In general I have been unhappy with getting less and less content each new expac but I'm still here playing and buying them.
